Village Stay_Nagnur Village

ntroduction:
The Nagnur village comes under Shurshetti Koppa Panchyath, Khalgatigi Taluk of Dharwad district. It is 25 KM away from Hubli city. Only road transportation available for this village. Four our team members and me visited this village on 11th and 12th of Feb 2009. Before this we had orientation in Gramachethana. Mr. Deepak, coordinator BIAF explained the motive behind Gramachethana. After that I moved to Kmapli Koppa along with my Classmates. We had practical experience of the PRA. I have been in matrix group. We did the matrix ranking regarding Compost. The rank
ing showed that still villagers are fond of Farm Yard manure (FYM).

History of the village:
‘Nagnur’ means village of snakes. We got different stories from the people regarding village history. One of the elders said that the village was called Laxmipura after that it changed to Y
alghatigi Nagnur and Nagnur. Other sources said that some body found Nagalinga in the village long back that is why villagers named Nagnur.

Transect Walk
We started our journey from Gramachethana. Naganur village is 2 KM from Gramachethana. On the way we saw ground nuts, cotton, and sugarcane & sunflower crops in the field. When we entered in to the village Coconut trees welcomed us in front every houses. We met some youths & old men few of them helped us for transect walk. We observed that houses are built very systematically side by side. In the entrance of the village there are houses built in the planned way given by Govt. Roads are very big. Majority houses are Kachha houses.
When we entered the village people were busy with their works. They were waiting for bus at Basavanna temple, some people were going to the field, and others were having tea at hotel & children were playing in front of community hall. There are 5 temples in th
e village; Basavanna Temple, Devamamman Temple, Hanuman Temple & Durgamman temple. There is a primary school, an Anganwadi , community hall, Milk Dairy, Panchayath office. There is a Durga.
Village was clean. Everyone has drawn rangoli in front of their houses. It shows their indigenous knowledge, local customs & practices. Rapport building was main challenge for us. As soon as we entered the village we initiated rapport building.
When we met people our team members were saying “ Namskara “ to villagers. We clearly explained them reason for coming to their village. Afternoon we visited field we collected some information regarding soil and crops.

Demographic details:
In this village360 habitants have been living. Village is having 1390 population in that male 686 and female 704 are there. Total 891 voters are there in that male 473 and female 418. leadership activity at Unkal Lake

Dear all

Activity performed at Unkal Kere, Hubli

The activity or campaign was conducted on 25th of Jan 2009 at 06:00 am by Ms.Gayatri, Mr.Veeresh, Mr.Shambuling, Mr.Lakshmish.
The aim of the activity was make the people take responsibility of social properties and to conserve them for next generation.
The objectives of the activities were
1. To bring in awareness about cleanliness, conserving the natural resources and proper utilization of the facilities provided by Government.
2. To bring in the notice to the Government about the mismanagement by the authorities.
3. Educate the society about health and hygiene through various activities like drama, skit, role plays etc
Reason for choosing particular activity: During the previous visit to Unkal lake by the fellows, came across about the unhealthy condition inside the park over there, cows and buffalo lying inside the park making the surrounding area stingy by dung all around. Gutka packs and waster paper lying throughout the park. Waste water from the companies surrounding the park enters inside and has made the part of park stagnant with drainage water. Waste thrown all over the park made it very untidy and created an unpleasant environment for those who come there for better healthy condition. This brought in the idea of advocacy in the mind of group members.

Activity: The group members led by Ms.Gayathri and Mr.Veeresh joined by Mr.Shambuling and Mr.Lakshmish as followers started cleaning the park by picking up the garbage lying all around the greenery area of the park. All the four members pecked the waste and collected it in one corner of the park. It was not an easy task as the waste was just spread over the park in each and every corner. Picking glass pieces of the cool drinks bottle and gutka packing cover was really a challenging job for the group.
The people who came for walking and jogging were slowly attracted by our activities. They started coming to us to interact what was happening and started sharing their views. They appreciated the work performed by the group.
